Here is how to join: Postgraduates, early career scholars and other deserving candidates are encouraged to consider applying for the Martin Burr Travel Bursary by 31 May 2025 : The Martin Burr bursaries are made possible by a generous bequest from Martin John Burr (1953-2012). After attending Berkhamsted School, Martin Burr matriculated at Pembroke College, Oxford, in 1971, to read Classics. He changed course to English Language and Literature in 1973 and graduated in 1975. He obtained the postgraduate Diploma in Comparative Philology from Oxford in 1976. Martin Burr went on to work in London as a barrister, specialising in taxation law, but he retained an interest in philology and the history of linguistic ideas throughout his life. |
